Oil Changes

Oil Changes

You hear it all the time: Get your oil changed, get your oil changed. But, why is this so important? Sticking to the preventative maintenance schedule in your vehicle’s owner’s manual keeps your car, truck, or SUV running like new, and this includes getting the oil changed. Don’t put this service off because you’re busy. Eagle Automotive & Transmission will get you in and out of our shop in no time.

Oil Changes Protect Your Engine

An automobile engine is a complex array of moving parts that create a lot of friction and heat. The hotter each part gets the sooner it wears down. It’s less expensive to change your motor oil every 3,000 miles than it is to replace worn engine parts, but that’s not the only way you’ll save money by getting your oil changed each time your vehicle’s manufacturer recommends it. Regular oil changes

  • Prevent friction and heat-related damage
  • Increase your vehicle’s gas mileage
  • Boost your engine’s efficiency
  • Help keep the engine clean
  • Help prevent the engine from overheating

Your body couldn’t survive without blood and your vehicle’s engine cannot survive without oil. This is why motor oil is often referred to as the engine’s “lifeblood.” Clean motor oil lubricates parts and removes grime and sludge. If the motor oil gets dirty and old, it does the exact opposite. It prevents moving part lubrication and deposits sludge throughout the engine.

Oil Change Facts

Conventional motor oil should be changed every 3,000 miles on average. Synthetic motor oil should be changed every 5,000 to 7,500 miles generally. Conventional motor oil is a natural byproduct of petroleum and synthetic motor oil is manmade. Both do an excellent job of protecting your engine but synthetic motor oil often contains additives to extend its life.

There are many factors that go into determining your vehicle’s oil change duration and which motor oil is best for your car, truck, or SUV. They include

  • Your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations
  • How many miles you put on your vehicle each day
  • How hard you drive your vehicle
  • The type of driving you do, i.e. city, highway, mountain, etc.
  • Whether your vehicle is a low-mileage or high-mileage automobile
